Once upon a night, I received a phone call from a friend who had devised a plot so thick that it could have only been arranged by the infamous JOEL R...
Concluding Joel's recent work in Maryland we thought it would be fun to visit the U.S. capital monuments and museums. We also decided to stop off and visit a couple of farms along the way. The rest is history. Enjoy...
Booked a flight within 12 hours of departure and I was on my way to Maryland.
(Check out the upside down smiley face on the wing)
The night I arrived, we decided to go ahead and see the Lincoln Memorial.
Edgar having words with Lincoln.
Edgar picked up a Washington Monument souvenir at the gift shop.
After being advised by a park police that there was a playground two blocks away, Edgar and I learned that monuments are not for playing around. (Edgar made me pose like this)
The Lincoln Memorial was an amazing experience.
The next morning we went to the church that Joel had been attending
while working in MD. It seemed to be a great church.
Lunch at Ted's Montana Grill in Arlington, VA (highly recommending the bison burger, just sayin).
Joel's beastly Bison Burger!
Arlington Cemetery.
The Men and Women who gave there lives to preserve our freedom.
The reality of the sacrifice of so many who gave their lives, sinking in.
The experience was kind of sobering. So many graves.
The experience was kind of sobering. So many graves.
Over looking the Pentagon.
Edgar... What a ham.
The Washington Monument was closed due to structural damage as a result of the earth quake.
This is Edgar considering moving to D.C. He decided against it.
After a long day in D.C. we head back to Joel's place for some rest.
Joel and his good friend Kyia.
Now, if you look up at the flag on the left, then over to the gold dome, then come back about three blocks and look right in the center of the photo you will see a blue 1998 Honda Accord.
Sharing another story. This guy could easily wright a book.
222, don't know what it means but I like it!
How old are you??
I call this picture..... "Snow in the valley surrounded by mountains with cows in the bottom".
Just gotta praise Him!
I call this picture..... "Tire tracks in the snow on a narrow road in the snow surrounded by trees with rocks on the left hand side" (one of my favorites).
Our destination! The farm of many faces.
The old guard dog. Good thing he's fenced in!
The guard goose! This goose was trained to protect these chickens at all cost.
These pigs where trained to do absolutely nothing.
Just a little thirst quencher. |
Staying hydrated.
Edgar and Daniel Salatin (Daniel is one of the farm owners/managers).
Joel asking a few questions while we had the privilege.
I'm trying to convince these people to let us stay the night at there home, I was successful :-)
We stopped off to visit some of Joel's fiends at the International House of Payer in Atlanta GA.
While in Atl we looked at this small scale backyard farm for some ideas on chicken cages, bees and organic produce (some of Joel's friends).
After we left Atlanta, we stopped by to visit my (Edgar) cousin's organic farm. He seems to be very successful with his farm. He's come a long way. And I hope to get to where he's at one day. He has helped me a lot with my farming ventures. I'm very thankful to know him.
Beautiful produce, grown under high tunnels.
Look at that lettuce, just look at it!
Edgar, trying to demonstrate this equipment.
Well that's it!
It was a wonderful trip! It was so good to be able to travel, go on a plane for my (Edgar) first time, visit historical sites, tour some farms, spend time in a house of prayer, and most of all spend time with my good friend Joel! I am so thankful to the Lord for friends like Joel. Someone is fun to hangout with, someone who truly loves the Lord, walks uprightly, builds me up in my faith, and is there for whenever I need help, with anything.
This post was captioned by both Edgar and Joel R.
If the captions were funny then they were most likely Joel's. :)
